Madhuve (wedding ) @ Mysuru

Suraj's wedding a big bash wedding @Mysore from the day we landed in Mysuru, all days we have ceremonies / rituals, started with Chapra pooja to make the  pandal infront of the home, next we have mehendi & reception third day Udatha muhurth which was to be held on the wedding day, but due to time constrain, done a day before the wedding.   The haldi ritual, I have not seen before an addition to our wedding ceremony all girls in yellow and a dance to make this ritual colorful Usually reception is done after wedding but Mysore style, reception was done before wedding, the venue decked up with fresh flowers, colorful led lights, DJ, with smoke  a nd all enjoyed with foot tapping music, good food a reception to remember Our wedding ceremony is a marathon which begins in the morning and ends by evening all in the presence of the Swamy some key rituals   Udatha muhurth the grinding & pestling of urad dal , first by the groom's  and next by bridegrooms rel...

Kaliyattam Theyam

Theyyam was lying long back in my bucket list for a long time, finally after Instragram, phone inputs planned to go to Pulimparamba, Taliparamba, Mykeel Sri Karimkutty sasthan temple,  Kaliyatam on Feb 12-13  booked tickets to Thalassery, as one of my friend was there, planned to explore some places nearby, as a train derailed track repair was going on and railways couldn't restore the track, and my train at 6am was as also cancelled.  Always plan B moved to KSRTC bus stand a Volvo bus to Kozhikode was there and 20 plus people waiting for the doors to be opened, go a seat ticket was a bit pricey as a budget traveller but no option Reached Calicut by 12 got the bus to Kannur a 2.30 hrs ride Kannur fort, St Anjelo fort was nearby about 2 kms from bus stand so took an auto to n fro, strolled around the fort and moved back to Kannur bus stand, from there to Taliparamba and one more bus to Pulimparamba By 6pm the Kaliyatam began with rhytmic beats of chenda a bit different to ...

the bul bul story It's a luck  a wonderful opportunity to follow a life of a redwhiskeredbulbulwe were back from Calicut, saw a bul bul  & a nest on our money plant nestled under our sunshade it's  bit difficult to watch this nest as it was perched under the sunshade, using our step stool, and using the pillar to support, one handed mobile phone photos & a DIY GoPro stand & and a led light source, setting GoPro at night makes shooting easy, mainly not to disturb the bird, suprise attacks from the bul buls, and support from my spotter to place camera when the birds are away Lady bul bul was in the nest for the whole day breaks for feeding, we were frequently monitoring the nest when she was out for feeding, saw one egg a brown dotted, later one more it was bit small Lady bul bul always in the nest, starting the process of hatching, ocassional feeding breaks, nights seems she is having a sound sleep hiding her head in the nest, but a slight motion will wake her...

Ranipuram 27-28 July 2019

Day 1  Ranipuram was in my wish list long back but could not go last year, this year as usual HATS announced the trek so booked ticket to Kanhangad,   plan was to see Bekal fort too as most of them will reach Kanhangad by 7-9am Train was late by about 45 minutes had a nice sleep, reached Bekal fort station its about 15 minutes walk to Bekal fort joined the team from Kochi took tickets and strolled over Bekal fort it has numerous forts on all of the corners facing sea, and the famous movie Bombay movie song "uyiraee uyiraee"fort spend some time as the other team has to join us By bus moved to Kanhangad had lunch from Indian coffee house not up to the standards of ICH then waited for the lone KSRTC bus to Ranipuram there is no direct bus to Ranipuram only 2 KSRTC service one in the morning 7am & 2.45pm otherwise you have to catch bus upto Panathady from there you have to take autorickshaw or jeep it will cost about Rs 25 per person from Panathady there is...
